Hi, I'm John Paul Vasquez. Hi, I'm Travis Hunter. This week, we're recording live from 112 Ocean Avenue discussing the 1979 supernatural horror film,

The Amityville Horror.

This film was directed by Stuart Rosenberg with the screenplay by Rosenberg based upon the book

by Jay Anson with input from George and Kathy Lutz.

A year after the real-life familicide committed by Ronald DeFayo Jr., the Lutz family moved into the house where the murders took place.

While these claims are steeped in skepticism and controversy,

1:13.3

the Amityville horror became incredibly successful,

So, what did you guys think about the Amityville horror the first time you saw it?

1:24.3

I remember watching this a lot as a kid and enjoying it.

1:43.5

as a kid. I think you probably remember it more. Yeah. Than I do. But I do remember a lot of the bigger scenes, the scary moments. As an adult, it's more, I feel like it's scary if it happened to you. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I wasn't that frightened by it watching it this time. Oh, I feel like it was

2:01.9

long. It's, it's quite long. To piggyback on that, I feel like, because I did a lot of research

2:10.0

into the original crime and into the Lutz's account of what they experienced. And after a certain point in the film, it really feels like they're like, oh, we didn't say this part. So fucking put it in there. No, put it in this part. It's funny because there was, there's like a couple moments toward the end. And I'm like, oh, you probably should have explained that. What the fuck? I remember being caught off guard by one in particular that we'll talk about.

2:35.6

I'm pretty sure I know what you're thinking of.

2:37.9

And the thing is, is that they are incredibly faithful to the story they were told and the story

2:44.0

that they're trying to tell.

2:45.5

But this is all a hoax, right?

2:47.9

I was wondering how long it would take to get into that.
