Summary

My friends Kate Kendrick (she/her) and her non-binary child Morgan (they/them) join us to share their story. Kate, who is no longer active LDS, joins us to talk about her journey to become an LGBTQ ally and then fully love and accept her sixteen-year-old non-binary/pansexual child who goes by the pseudonym "Morgan." (who is age 16). It is a beautiful family love story. Kate offers helpful principles and perspective for parents to love and support their queer children. Kate also talks about her decision to no longer participate in the Church and what we can do to build bridges of understanding between those in the Church and those who have left the Church. Kate is not asking other people to leave the Church—rather, she is suggesting what we can do to bring both parties together as members of the same human family. Morgan, who is wise beyond their years, talks about what gives them hope and shares their advice to queer people who have less more. struggle with those who don't accept their sexuality/gender identity and/or are feeling suicidal. 0:33.0	her identity at a tender age in 2021. Morgan identified as non-binary and as they, them pronouns.
0:43.0	And I will do my best to honor your pronouns, Morgan. And sometimes a mom or dad will be on
0:51.1	the podcast kind of talk about their queer kids, but it sometimes
0:54.3	makes it even better if someone like Morgan joins us. We hear both of your stories. This is just
1:00.7	a family story of love to understand a non-binary child. So our hope is if you are a parent or a local
1:09.5	leader or part of the LGBT community, this story will help you not feel alone and not feel more hope.
1:18.6	Kate grew up in the LDS church and has been active for most of her life, but has recently decided not to participate in the church, which is the same as Morgan. So you ought to know
1:30.3	this will partly be a story of sort of stepping away from the church. But Kate is not asking you
1:35.3	if you're active LDS to step away from the church. This is more about trying to build bridges of
1:41.2	understanding. This podcast platform is support of the church,
1:49.8	but it's also supportive of everybody's individual journey and trying to still see us as the same human family and build bridges of understanding between those that stay and those that leave.
1:55.6	Because that's, to me, part of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's really brave of Morgan to be here.
