On today's episode, Dennis is back with USMC Veteran and Texas Law Enforcement Officer, Ann Carrizales. Officer Ann Carrizales began her career in the Military with the United States Marine Corps. In 1997 Ann made history as she became the first female to represent the USMC in amateur boxing. In 1999 she became the U.S. Women’s National Champion in her weight division and was ranked #1 in the country. As a Sergeant, Ann attended Leadership Training at the Marine Corps Institute, served as a Criminal Investigator and a Field Training Officer, receiving multiple meritorious awards for superior achievement and performance. In 2010 Ann joined the Stafford Police Department working special assignments such as FTO, Rape Aggression Defense Instructor, Police Trainer and worked as a Crisis Negotiator on the East Fort Bend County Regional SWAT Team.
On October 26, 2013, during a vehicle stop, Officer Carrizales found herself in a gunfight for her life. Shot in the face and chest, Ann was not going to quit. She shares her story with us as a role model and inspiration to Law Enforcement Officers throughout the country. Ann has received the LE Purple Heart, the Congressional Badge of Bravery, the IAWP Medal of Valor and many more awards for her heroic acts.
Today, Ann discusses the true pain of being shot in the line of duty both physically and mentally, the aftermath stresses involved with an OIS, importance of training your mind and being prepared for these incidents and overcoming fear.
