Summary

In this episode I'm joined first by Tom Canton of The Gooner Talk TV to chat about the 1-1 draw with FC Nurnberg last night. We discuss Bukayo Saka, the selection of Jakub Kiwior at left back, our first sight of Kai Havertz, Folarin Balogun, Emile Smith Rowe, and a derisory bid for Rob Holding.

Then, I chat to Jacob from Poorly Drawn Arsenal about the wonderful work he does, his reasons for starting, artistic inspirations, how it has developed over the years, and much more besides.

Hello and welcome to a brand new R-Splag R-Scast right here on R-Splag.com. How are you?

0:27.0

Hope you're well. Thank you very much indeed as always for being here. It's Friday. I know this this particular episode is out a little bit later than normal particularly during this summer when we've been pushing episodes out on a Thursday.

0:41.0

But we did play a game last night. A one-one draw with FC Nürnberg. So we're going to chat about that and look at some of the other talking points from that.

0:50.5

And afterwards I'm going to chat to poorly drawn Arsenal somebody whose work I'm sure you know we're going to talk about how it all started, why it started, his very distinctive style and lots more. So do please stick around for that.

1:06.5

A little later in the show I'll give you some information about some of the things that are happening on the US tour. I'm going to be in the US from next week. I'll be in New York and I'll also be in Los Angeles. There are a few bits and pieces going on.

1:19.5

So give me some info on that if you're going to be around for those games against Manchester United and Barcelona. But with me now to talk about the game last night against FC Nürnberg from the Gunnar Talk TV and Football London. It's Tom Canton. Hello Tom.

1:32.5

How are you doing? I am all right. Football is back. I'm not going to say with a bang but it is back and we played FC Nürnberg last night. A one-one draw. I suppose you could say it was a tale of two halves in a way. The first half was a lot more coherent cohesive. There seemed to be more structure about the way Arsenal played. And then of course when you make changes in the second half and the context of the game it gets a little more scrappy.

2:00.5

But a few things I suppose that we could talk about. I mean first it seems a bit redundant to talk about how good Bacchio sake is. But you know start as you mean to go on or just pick up where you left off.

2:12.5

The goal he made look ridiculously easy. He gets booted up and down and you're worrying and he's lying there and then he gets up again which you know he always seems to.

2:21.5

You know on the back of a new contract and everything else it really is exciting to think about what he's going to produce in this new season.

2:30.5

Yeah I mean I struggle to believe many people have you know failed to miss football at times because it's a stressful sport and we love it for what it is.

2:41.5

But Bacchio sake really reminds you why you do love it is kind of the best way I think to describe him as a footballer.

2:47.5

You know he said preseason didn't get back with a bang but he tried as hard as he could to bring it back with one with a fantastic strike.

2:54.5

Something that I think you know is as needed to become a bit more characteristic of his style.

3:00.5

We always use the Iron Robin comparison for a right winger that cuts in and then bangs one across a keeper hits them near post.

3:07.5

And Saka very much fits stylistically a right winger of an inverted nature because of his left footed style but I've liked to have seen more of that type of goal from him moving forwards.

3:19.5

And I think that when he does cut inside the fear that you get the fear that I think we got with Nicola Pepe is that it can become too predictable for a right winger that's left footed.

3:28.5

And I think that that style of goal that he scored against Manchester United for instance in a really high profile game and obviously to a lesser extent in yesterday's friendly is something that I do want to see more from him.

3:38.5

I want to see him beat players. I want to see him do that to a level where perhaps we're seeing him get 20 plus goals across all competitions because of a world class level.

3:47.5

That's what our right wingers looking to try and get you know it was getting a really good talent in the Premier League last season.

3:52.5

I'd love to challenge him to see if he can get 20 plus across all comps next year.

3:55.5

Yeah, I mean the thing about Sack is as well that you know you make the comparison with Robin and I think you know as distasteful as that might be you know he was a very effective player.
