Summary

On this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, Tim talks to data analyst and scout Marc Lamberts. Tim talks to Marc about what scouting entails in women's football, what kind of work he does for clubs across Europe, his experience of scouting new Gunners signing Cloe Lacasse (he didn't scout her on Arsenal's behalf) what kind of player Lacasse is, her strengths and weaknesses and how she fits in. Tim and Marc also discuss whether her career path exposes some inefficiencies in the women's transfer market with a lot of leagues still not very visible to anything other than a small, localised audience.

Hello and welcome to another Arsenal Women's Haascast on Haasplog.com with me, your presenter,

0:18.9

Tim Stilman. This is a podcast that's been quite a long time in the making and really

0:23.8

it's going to splice two subjects that I'm really interested in together. Clearly usually,

0:29.4

when Arsenal sign a player, I put together a podcast about that player with someone who's

0:34.2

watched that player a lot. And so I've had a lot of time to think about who I might record

0:39.7

a podcast about Chloe LeCasse with. And actually that proved really, really difficult because

0:44.4

there aren't that many people who watch Portuguese, watch the Portuguese League very, very

0:49.0

regularly. And it's not a particularly accessible league to watch. And actually this made me think

0:54.7

of another thing I've been thinking over the last kind of 18 months or so. And precisely why I'm

0:59.0

so interested in this signing, which is, you know, looking for those inefficiencies in the women's

1:05.4

transfer market. And perhaps some of those players who do fall between the cracks a little bit. And we

1:11.2

maybe saw it a bit with half-i-early as well. When she was an Arsenal beer, I think her reasons

1:16.8

were going to China were largely financial. But another, you know, a player who I think is world

1:22.0

class who had kind of been hidden from view in China for a few years. And it made me think about all

1:27.5

of the, like, if I can't get someone to talk about Chloe LeCasse, how did Arsenal scout this

1:32.0

player? How did they find her? And what role does the women's champions league have now in perhaps

1:36.9

making some of these players visible? And I was racking my brains about who to talk about both of

1:42.6

those things with. And actually found why consider to be a very good guest for both subjects. So

1:49.2

some of you might have seen his work on Twitter, particularly around data analytics around the

1:53.6

women's game. But very delighted to welcome Mark Lambus to the show. Mark, thanks for coming on.

1:59.8

Yeah, thanks for having me. It's quite an intro. Yeah, I'm really interesting to hear. Also,

2:05.7

what do you have to say? And I think it's definitely a topic that needs exploring a little bit more,
