It's inevitable in our lives that we'll read a headline in a newspaper that will just knock us off our feet.

The unbelievable information that's printed before our eyes for a a second, will make us question if this

could be true. And when we realise that it is, thoughts of what we've read, a new low for humanity,

intrusively enter our minds with no warning. Today's case has been one of those for me.

It's so bizarre. it's so sad,

but it's so real. I'm I remember logging onto my laptop back in September 2023 and seeing the first reports of this case on a local news website.

And I waited for more information.

I was hoping that it wasn't true and it was so close to home for me.

On the day of the release of this podcast,

the case had concluded just five days prior and the details surrounding this case would be made public.

This is the case of Lois and John McCullough.

In September 2023,

a GP just outside of Chelmsford in Essex contacted Essex County Council.

They were concerned about two of their patients, married couple John and Lois.

John hadn't attended any of his appointments since 2019 and had failed to pick up prescribed medications. When the staff at the doctor's surgery had tried to make contact, the couple's

daughter, Virginia, had come up with a range of excuses to explain his absence and why he wasn't coming to the phone to speak to the

doctor. His wife Lois also had not attended any of her appointments. The couple were in their

70s, a time in our lives where we do tend to lean on our healthcare providers for support,

as age slows our bodies down,

and medical issues can become more frequent.
