In the coming weeks, we're going to be moving on from

what historians have coined the Buccaneers era of piracy. In more than a few ways the

stories we're about to tell are some of the first of real piracy here on the Pirate History Podcast.

There have been acts of piracy and even a few real pirates so far, but most of our characters have been privateers and had yet to throw off those shackles of empire and the law that later pirates would.
