What's up, guys? So today on the podcast, we have Chris Mortyarty. He is a black belt and jih Tzu. And for me, this was fun. So, you know, with the podcast, Eugene got this one because Chris is a doctor and he's, you know, he was involved with the study recently that was, you know, focused around jih T athletes and jih T practitioners. And then Eugene was excited from, you know, his PT brain was, you know, getting going and you know thinking about all the implications from the studies findings. And then for me, this was a fun episode because I grew up, like when I first started to jiu-jitsu, this guy was like wrecking everyone, like, you know, in the in the area you know he was a I believe when

0:37.7

when I first started he was a purple belt and when I you know saw him the guy was really good

0:41.7

so a lot of times what would happen is whenever I would you know be done with matches or a lot

0:47.1

of times he would compete before I would like you know park my my butt over in the corner and I

0:51.0

would just end up just watching the dude because he was always competing everywhere so

super fun podcast with a super bright guy that's again had a long career in jiu-jitsu and he's now transitioning. He's a medical doctor now and doing that whole thing. And so again, I think it's a really interesting podcast. A lot of really cool injury prevention tips and sort of dealing with injury. So I think it'll be really helpful for some of you guys. If that's something you're struggling with now. So we'll jump into the podcast. Guys, as always, if you want to support the podcast, you can use our promo code, Jiu-Jitsu 10 at charlotswob.com with their CBD products. Again, it's something that I use for recovery and sort of to aid my sleep. And again, I always say this with every episode. If you are not interested in using Charlotte's Web, maybe you have another company, that's fine. Charles Webb is the one that Eugene and I use. But just make sure you give it a try. Because I was one of those people where I was like resistant to it at first. I was like, ah, whatever. It's like it just, I thought it was just something that wasn't really that big of a deal. And literally like, I had soreness and muscles and things like that that wouldn't go away. I start using it and it made a big difference. And so, um, you again, results are going to be different for everyone, but it's been really helpful for me with my training. So check it out. And then you can check out our Patreon, patreon.com slash the Jiu-Jitsu podcast. On the Patreon,

A bunch of other stuff on there. So you can check that out at patreon.com slash the Jiu-Jitsu podcast with all that stuff out of the way, with all the formalities out of the way. Let's get into the podcast

with Chris. Well, cool, man. Thanks for jumping on the podcast with us. It was, I was pretty, like, when I think Eugene, because Eugene's a PT, and so I think you put out a study or you were sharing a study recently, and he was super, super interested in it. And so he was like, hey, let's get him on the podcast and for me like um i like i was telling him i started to geek out like some of the people

2:35.7

listening may or the people listening may or may not know who you are. But I remember when I first started as a white belt back in 2003. My very first tournament was like the Nashville Open in like July or something of that year. And I remember I was like, you're, I think you were, were you a purple butt at that time

3:08.3

or blue belt?

3:08.9

Yeah.

3:09.5

Purple.

3:10.1

Uh, probably purple. Yeah, purple. And so like I, like I watched you and there was a couple other dudes from Alliance that were just like kicking everybody's ass. And I remember like I would go, I went to the Bud Cup later on and all these other tournaments And it was like this dude was always there killing everybody.

3:06.1

So like I remember I would usually geek out when you're, you know, back in those days,

3:27.6

man, you know, purple belts.

3:28.6

That was, that was something special.

3:30.6

You know, so like I remember like you and like watching like we, I remember then there was

3:34.4

a tournament where it was the Music City Open 2005 or something, 2006, I can't remember. Yeah. You know, and I remember you went into the finals of that one. I went to, I like was doing finals at school at my weight. The weight cut off was like one ninety three. And I ended up being bumped up to like the big weight class and you were down below. Anyway, it was a treat though, man. I used to love watching you grapple and go out there and like get after it because you know but like you said back in the day in this part of the world they're just it wasn't like you had black belts running around and so you'd have these these badass purple belts like you doing it and that was uh that was definitely an inspiration for me to kind of get out there and keep going so um glad to have you on today. Thanks so much.

4:15.8

Chris, when did you end up going to, you went to Met School, correct? Yeah. When did you,

4:21.1

when did you, like, how old were you when you decided to go to med school? Oh, well, I mean,
