Episode 625, next stop, Guadalcanal.

Last time, the Japanese expansion campaign had just come to an end. Not only was Port Moresby

not taken, but now Midway was safe, and the Empire had just lost four carriers. But more than that,

Midway had proven the dominance of air power. So clearly, the Japanese needed to build more carriers and aircraft. As for the

Japanese people, they had no idea of the calamitous loss at Midway. They were told it was a victory.

Most of the military was told the same thing. As for the survivors of Midway, naval units were

broken up and sent to different areas.

It would take years for the truth to come out.

But there was a second result of Midway, that being the planned takeover and division of the entire world by the Axis Powers.

Germany, Japan, and Italy declared war on the United States

on December 11, 1941. But on December 8th, with his infamy speech, FDR only asked Congress to declare war on Japan.

The other two Axis Powers jumped on board, although technically they did not have to.
