Summary

My friend Mitchell Harris (any/all) joins us to share their story as a pansexual non-binary Latter-day Saint. Mitchell is a committed Latter-day Saint, served a mission in Mexico City, and is a Math Education major at BYU. Mitchell talks about their early experience and realizing they are queer and their decision to come out in 2019. Mitchell talks about Transmedicalism (something new to me) and how some non-binary/trans people (like Mitchell) do not experience long-term gender dysphoria—yet are trans/non-binary. Mitchell also talks about Church doctrines that help them maintain faith in Christ and why they are a member of the Church. I learned so much from Mitchell. They helped me consider the things I can do in my circle of influence to improve the experience of queer members. The “Body of Christ” is strengthened by having people like Mitchell in it and their contributions. Thank you, Mitchell, for being on the podcast. Your story will help so many. You can find Mitchell on Twitter at @mormonpan

I have another queer member of the church in my home to share their story, and I'm grateful

for Mitchell Harris willing to do this. Mitchell will tell his story as non-binary. So if I do a good job in this

podcast, I will use they-them pronouns for Mitchell. They will also share their story as a pansexual

Latter-day Saint. And I'm really grateful for Mitchell, who's a current BYU student, to bravely share their story. I asked Mitchell

0:40.2

before we went live, I said, why do you want to share your story? And he says, I want to help other

queer Latter-day Saints that may be earlier on this path. And I want to bring four stories that we

don't traditionally hear in the queer space. And we do have lots of gay and lesbian people on the podcast,

but to have a pansexual person on the podcast as well as someone that's non-binary on the podcast,

1:03.7

I'm really grateful.

And our hope is it will help you if you're queer and also if you're straight,

1:10.0

that you will have this kind of a story to help you better support queer Latter-day Saints under that umbrella that are non-binary and or pansexual.

Mitchell served a mission in Mexico City mission. He's a math education major at Brigham Young University. He's in his 20s. He plans to teach high school math. I'm in my 60s, Mitchell, and I still remember my high school math teachers. They made a good impact on my life. I'm glad they made a good one.

1:41.0

So is that okay for an introduction? Yeah, I think that was great.

1:45.9

Hit the highlights a little bit.

1:48.6

So I will just, I think Mitchell's going to talk about coming out at his bio.

1:54.3

Sort of that would be realizing he's queer.

1:56.6

He's going to introduce some terms that I'm not as familiar with.

And I'll let him kind of do that during the podcast.

And there may be sometimes when I hear stuff or you hear stuff that's new.

And my first reaction when I do that now is to sit with that, even though it's uncomfortable for me and think, is that changes I need to make in my views to better support

somebody that I haven't traditionally heard their story. So mad guesses we may hear experiences
