Hi, everyone. This is Jasmine Singer, the executive director, co-founder, and co-host of Our Henhouse,

a media hub producing podcasts that change the world for animals. I am so pleased to welcome you to the

first episode of the four-part audio series of the book, Anti-Racism in Animal Advocacy, Igniting Cultural

Transformation. It was a true honor to be the editor of this new anthology published by Lantern Books and Media,

and it was a joy to work alongside In Compass, in particular, Arianeesh Birdie and Michelle Rojas Soto on bringing this book to creation.

Anti-racism in animal advocacy ign igniting cultural transformation, is a collection of essays written

by farmed animal protection advocates who are committed to exploring and prioritizing racial

equity as we work to create a more just animal protection movement.

We wish to document our stories and processes

in an exploratory space from which we can grow and use our words to hold ourselves and our

peers accountable, ultimately creating new paths forward. Those of us who contributed to this

anthology were attendees of Encompasses

two 2020 racial equity institutes. Encompass, the nonprofit that organized the institutes,

aims to make the farmed animal protection space more effective by working with white folks

to operationalize racial equity, as well as by working

with individual advocates of the global majority to cultivate our individual and collective leadership.

This anthology was originally an online collaboration between Encompass, our Henhouse, and

sentient media, and was titled

Incompass essays Pursuing Racial Equity in Animal Advocacy.
