Hi, I'm John McIner and you're listening to the Tennis Podcast.

Hello and welcome to the Tennis Podcast the morning after the Australian Open Men's Singles Final in which a new Grand Slam champion was crowned.

0:45.0

And Catherine Whitaker, it wasn't exactly your average final.

0:49.0

Well, I've certainly never seen a final like it. I don't know about you.

0:54.0

It's very odd, usually a final involving injury is utterly anticlimactic and very much lacking something.

1:02.0

I mean, obviously there were periods in it where that was the case, but it didn't lack for drama and excitement and atmosphere.

But speaking to him afterwards, I interviewed Benito for BBC Radio 5 Live and he did confirm that

2:15.0

2:20.0

I mean, he said he had niggles but he did something on the court and that tallade would what Raffa said pretty much when he came into interview afterwards.

2:29.0

So it was a very strange evening and what we mustn't do, I think, is take anything away from Stanislaus Vavrinka who got the job done.

2:39.0

Yeah, and what you say there about it was something he did on the court.

2:43.0

I think that's crucial because that means that that first set in a half, set in a third, was a level playing field.
