In our last episode we met David. David was the one God had anointed to be the new king over Israel.

What do you think David must have been thinking?

Maybe he was thinking, I'm too young to be king.

Or maybe he was thinking, I'm just a shepherd boy.

I don't know anything about being a king.

Well, David had time to think about all of this, because, you see, he did not become king right that moment.

Even though Samuel had anointed David, Saul was still king.

David would only become king after the Lord removed Saul from the throne.

Now remember Saul had disobeyed the Lord more than one time.

Saul's heart had become hardened to the voice of God.

He no longer listened to Samuel or to the Lord,

but did only as he wanted. Saul had turned his back on the Lord, but did only as he wanted.

Saul had turned his back on the Lord, and the Bible says that the Spirit of the Lord

had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit tormented him.

This means that Saul was not a happy person.

In fact, he was miserable.
