Hello, and thank you for listening to the history of World War II podcast,

Episode 606, Patton's second, N-run.

Last time, with the Americans having trouble at San Fratello,

General Patton ordered an amphibious N-run to trap the 29th Panzer

Grenadier Division. The N-run was far from perfectly executed, but the GIs and their commander,

Lieutenant Colonel Bernard, adjusted accordingly, enough so that the Germans pulled out of San Fratello,

leaving behind most of their Italian comrades.

Either way, the log jam was broken, or rather pushed further east,

as most of the 29th Panzer Grenadier managed to escape.

The Allied push towards Messina continued.

Meanwhile, the Tarvis Conference only showed the split between Rome and

Berlin more clearly. As for the question of holding Sicily, that was about to take center stage.
