Summary
We’re continuing the Behind the Mic series where I’m chatting with fellow podcasters in the running space. I hope you’re enjoying these conversations as much as I am. Today, I’m talking with Angie and Trevor Spencer, the husband-and-wife duo behind Marathon Training Academy—truly one of the original running podcasts out there.
They launched the show way back in 2010 (yes, seriously—2010), and they’ve grown a massive community and business through it. Angie and Trevor have traveled all over the world running races, hosting events, and supporting athletes through their coaching programs. If you’re looking for coaching, you can check out all they offer at marathontrainingacademy.com.
Angie has run 72 marathons—including six ultras—with a PR of 3:19. She’s run a marathon in every single U.S. state and has qualified for Boston in all 50 states. She’s a USATF Level 1 and RRCA Level 2 certified coach. Trevor, who once hated running, now has 24 marathons, a 50K, and 27 half marathons under his belt. He’s run races in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, Japan, the UK, Slovakia—you name it. He’s passionate about using running as a way to explore the world and connect with people, and that comes through in everything he does behind the mic.
Their podcast recently celebrated its 15-year anniversary (check out their April 2nd episode for that milestone!), which is absolutely incredible. Their longevity and consistency are a testament to their love for this sport and the community they’ve built.
In this episode, we talk about their journey with the podcast and running, parenting three boys, and I couldn’t resist asking them for some tips on raising boys—since they’re a few steps ahead of me. I really appreciated their honest insights and the warmth they brought to this conversation.
If you’re enjoying this series, a quick rating and review on iTunes or Spotify goes a long way—it helps more people find the show and lets me know what’s resonating with you.
All right friends, please enjoy my conversation with Angie and Trevor Spencer.
