What's up guys? So today on the Chiu-Jitsu podcast, I'm here with Eugene, and we are going to talk about the competition I had recently. So I think that one of the earlier podcasts I had recently, I was kind of talking about the fact that I was getting ready for the Chicago Open. I was getting ready for a competition. And it's now, it's been about at the time of recording. This has been about two weeks since it's, or about a week and a half since the Chicago Open.

This tournament was a success.

0:25.6

You know, I ended up getting, you know, lucky, which again, some people like, they don't like that idea of luck.

0:30.6

I consider luck, you know, I like the, our old, my old wrestling coach, he defined luck as preparation meets opportunity.

0:38.8

So you create your own luck by training hard and doing all the right things.

0:43.3

And so I figured I was lucky, you know.

0:45.4

And so I went out there and competed, did really well, ended up getting three gold medals.

0:48.2

I won my weight class in the ghee.

0:50.7

I didn't do the open in the ghee day.

0:53.0

I just didn't want to that day. And then the second day I did

0:55.9

the apps or the my weight class. I won that. And then I won my or win the open division in the

no geese. So it worked out really well. But that said, one of the things that's kind of interesting

1:06.9

is we'll break down here in just a second is the mindset of things like almost didn't let the open happen and we're going to share some ideas with you guys that might be useful to you guys if you have competitions coming up because I know that's one of the things I get questions with almost daily is relating to competitions you know and how to compete as best you can so hopefully this podcast is interesting to you guys as we jump into it. And even if it's not a jihitsu competition, some of the mindset stuff that we'll talk about today and probably whatever else we get into, I think will be useful to you. So as always, if you want to support the podcast, you can go to patreon.com slash the jujitsu podcast. I'm going to be putting up, as I'll talk more about it in just a bit on the podcast, I'm going to be putting up a couple of breakdowns from the tournament recently. And you guys can check those out on the Patreon. They're not going to be available in the YouTube. The YouTube. And always, guys, if you want to support yourself with rest and recovery and being able to train a little bit more and reducing

I would encourage you to just explore the possibilities with CBD. It's been a game changer for me. It's really helped out with everything from, for me personally, what I've noticed is everything from rest and recovery, muscle soreness, even things like anxiety and things like it, it seems like it's helped. So hopefully it's useful to you guys and with that said let's jump to the podcast so um

2:35.9

do you get as nervous as we do when you compete because i swear like i'm watching you compete and i'm

2:40.7

like well no one's ever like it's always weird like how that works right like you know like whenever

2:45.9

i would be fighting i would be nervous for sure but like as the fight grew closer i would be less and less

2:50.7

nervous more and more excited like alright let's do this. Whereas when you're a coach or you're a friend watching someone fighter compete, you get more nervous as the time goes on because you don't have any control in it. I think that when you're competing, you have to be in it. You're in it. you can't be nervous anymore. You have to go. Whereas when you're not, you're the person sitting out watching it and you're just like, you know, you're kind of just watching and, you know, you get nervous to your friends or your partners or your buddies, whatever it's going on and you want them to, you want to see them to succeed. Yeah. I get nervous watching you guys. Not so much anymore because I'm a little bit better now, but I still get nervous,

3:25.8

especially when it's big matches. Like, I know watching chat at the pans this past year, like, you know, I'm on edge the whole time. And then, you know, when I've coached people in fighting and stuff like that, but now it's, it's a little bit better, but I still get nervous for that. But for me, not so much.
