Now you've got to give it to Carl Spiro. He did not lack in Hootsba or self-confidence.

Carl Spiro was a can-do sort of guy.

None of the Spiro descendants seemed to be following in their footsteps.

Lyle Neal, the informant, is still in the witness protection program, or maybe dead?

Probably dead.

Descendants of Willie the Rat Comasano and the Savellas have continued the family tradition.

Several of them were convicted operating a sports book a few years back.

Anthony to Savella, Corky Covella's grandson, was recently convicted of taking money destined

for ATM machines.

He had set up a company to restock ATM machines for several banks and somehow about $25,000

a month made it into his pocket.

I also hope you've been educated about the difficulty in investigating

organized crime. I want the listener to learn of the moral and ethical dilemmas that police

officers face when they investigate the mob. The public has a right to expect law enforcement

to work hard, be creative, and to keep them feeling safe. Law enforcement has a duty to achieve this goal, but this lofty goal must be achieved in an open and free society.

Police officers are often caught in this clash of goals, the goal of living in an open, free society, and the desire for the citizenry to feel safe.
