Summary
I’m excited to bring you this conversation with Taylor Roe, who recently won the 2025 USATF Half Marathon Championships with an impressive time of 67 minutes and 22 seconds on a tough course in Atlanta. This victory was a personal best for Taylor, improving her time by over a minute.
What makes this win even more remarkable is that it came as a surprise to many. Taylor has mentioned in several post-race interviews that her goal was to make the team, and winning the race wasn’t necessarily on her radar. But she made it happen. Along with Taylor, Emma Grace Hurley and Amanda Vestri—both of whom have also been guests on this show recently—secured spots on the team as well. This means we’ll be sending a very strong trio of athletes to the World Championships in the half marathon.
Taylor is part of Puma Elite in the Raleigh-Durham area, which is exciting for me personally since I also live in the region. She’s coached by Alistair and Amy Cragg. Interestingly, Taylor debuted in the half marathon at the Houston half, and we get to talk about that experience, as well as her decision to race in the Half Marathon Championships. While Taylor loves the track, she’s currently focused on the 10,000 meters and gearing up for some races on the track.
Taylor ran for Oklahoma State University, where she was an NCAA Indoor Champion, the 2023 Big 12 Champion in the 5,000 meters, and runner-up in the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships. She credits her college coach, Dave Smith, for playing a significant role in shaping her career. Last summer, she finished eighth in the 5,000 meters at the US Olympic Trials, and we all know that Taylor’s path will eventually lead to the marathon. But for now, she’s focused on maximizing her potential on the track before taking that step.
It’s clear that an exciting career lies ahead for Taylor Roe, and I’m honored to have had her on the podcast this week.
