Blood on Premisole Bridge.

Last time, after much loss and sacrifice, the paratroops of the first parachute brigade

held on to the southern side of Primasol Bridge until the advanced units of Monti's 30th Corps

arrived on the scene, specifically Sherman tanks of the 4th Armored Brigade.

And yet, this did not mean that the day was won. This did not mean that the bridge was won.

The Germans weren't giving up so easily.

There was still a fight to be had.

But backing up a bit, on the evening of July 14th, after some of the Shermans arrived south of the bridge,

a company of the 6th Durham Light Infantry showed up, but they had covered 20 miles on foot in the hot

Sicilian sun just to get here. Thus, they were in no shape to continue fighting, to completely

capture the bridge and some territory beyond it as they had been ordered to by Monty. But at least

their presence chased away the Axis Southern
