My friend Allison Dayton (Active LDS, Mother of Three Including a Gay Son) joins us to share her latest thoughts on the intersection of being LDS and LGBTQ. Allison has been on this road for 4 decades with her gay brother Preston (who died in 2017) and her gay son Jake (currently at BYU) and has a unique and needed perspective. Allison started Lift and Love (check out liftandlove.org and @liftandlove on IG) which is a support group for LDS parents with LGBTQ kids. It also helps give local leaders more tools to better support LGBTQ youth. Life and Love also has a series of support groups (mentioned in the podcast) that is so needed and expanding. 0:23.5	to the LGBTQ space and some of the people in the space, Allison is someone who has been and continues
0:30.3	to be a mentor to me. But she is the founder of Lift and Love. And you can check out

0:40.2	Allison's been on this road.

0:45.3	And she's been on this road for four decades.
0:47.9	I've been on this road since I was a singles word bishop for, you know, like six years.
0:52.7	So one of the things that I think will be helpful
0:55.7	for you and you being leaders and parents and LGBTQ Latter-day Saints is sort of this long
1:01.9	view that Allison has. And part of her long view is her brother Preston, who has now since
1:08.9	died. He died in 2017, came out.
1:12.5	Allison grew up with a gay brother, became aware that he was gay as a teenager,
1:17.1	loved this brother. And then he passed away in 2017. Allison is also the mother with her husband,
1:24.3	Ken, of a son, Jake, great young man who came out in 2018.
1:28.9	So one of the things that Allison has this perspective of being a sibling and watching
1:33.2	her parents raise a gay son and now raising a gay son herself.
