But when he starts to retrench on some of his prior commitments, when he backtracks on what I feel

like is a pretty adodyne statement, like, yeah, the cops are racist. The Supreme Court just

found them to be unconstitutional their practices within the last 10 years. You know, it also

concerns me. And I feel like it's my obligation as a journalist to talk about it. So I try to do

so in a way that makes it clear that I am trying to help and push him in the direction I'd like

him to go as opposed to trying to hurt him or trying to help and push him in the direction I'd like him to go,

as opposed to trying to hurt him or trying to empower Cuomo, for instance. But, you know,

I don't think he is served well by me pretending that he's not making moves that I think are not just

like morally bad choices, politically bad choices, but also like strategically

bad choices because I don't see capitulating on these issues as earning him any more votes

from the bad faith folks who are criticizing him. Why would he be doing this then?

I mean, I think that's the fundamental question. He's up so significantly in polls. He did it, had a very strong performance last night, and I think polls indicate that he's going to be up even more.
