Hey Jesse, I wanted to ask you about a tweet that I saw the other day.

Normally I try to ignore your tweets, but this one just sort of caught my attention.

Rarely happens, but it did this time.

I'm going to rate it to you.

At Jesse's single, I got an assignment from the New Yorker a couple years ago.

Got to travel for it.

It was so excited.

It took months to report and write it.

And then the first draft elicitated the most searing rejection I've ever gotten in my life,

making it clear that the piece was dead on arrival.

Jesse, what the fuck did you do?

What happened?

How did you blow this?

So just to be clear, you're not interested in my tweets until I tweet something humiliating

or negative that happened to me.

And then suddenly you're full of questions.

It's weird how that works, isn't it?

Okay, so I believe I was quote retweeting someone who mentioned failure and how I think

the context was like in journalism, we often don't talk about our failures or we're not

aware of other people's failures.

So yeah, basically a few years ago, I had a cold pitch to story to a New Yorker editor.
