Summary

Makenna Myler joins me today for another Olympic Trials marathon episode! Makenna is sponsored by Asics and placed 7th at the Olympic marathon Trials with a 2:26:14. This was a 5 minute PR for Makenna. She was only 10 months postpartum at this race and still breastfeeding. This was her third marathon. She ran the McKirdy micromarathon in the fall in 2:31 and before that she had run the NYC marathon in 2:40 but was injured during that race so it wasn’t a show of her full potential!

Makenna is the mom of two. She is coached by Ryan Hall. This was her second time on the podcast. She was last on back in August of 2022 after she ran in the track and field Olympic Trials and finished 14th in the 10k there just a year after giving birth to her first child.

This was a big race for her and I love the way that she talks about the joy that she brings into training and racing!

What we talked about:

3:30- Being a mom of two

6:00- Reflections on the race and her training leading into it

11:45- Working with Ryan Hall as her coach

16:45- Racing and training while breastfeeding

21:35- Balances with parenting

26:00- Decision to have kids with the timing of her career

28:25- Training through pregnancy

33:25- Her motto of “staying delusional”

37:00- Her support system through her pregnancy

42:10- Coming back postpartum

45:45- Recapping her race at the Olympic Trials

52:30- Finding joy in running and racing

And so that really wasn't, I guess guess you would say like a show of her

joy she brings into her training and this race it's no wonder she ran so well.

trials finishing 14th less than a year after giving birth to her daughter. We had in a lot of directions in this episode.

1:34.8

It was so fun to catch up with McKenna

1:37.1

and hear about her big dreams and her love

1:41.0

for the sport and really how finding joy in that hard work is what leads to much

of her success.
