Welcome to its morning in America again, the latest in our series of training tapes.

I hope you have benefited from the insights of our speakers over the 1995-96 election cycle.

In this tape, Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, reflects upon the results of the 1996

election.

Our tremendous victories of 1994 were not reversed.

For the first time in 68 years, a Republican Congress was re-elected.

Not since Nicholas Longworth in 1926 and 1928 has a Republican Speaker of the House

retained the gavel for more than a single Congress.

This is a significant achievement.

The Speaker also lays out his vision for the tasks ahead, for the 105th Congress, for

1998, and beyond.

In the Speaker's words, quote, each of us in our own way has to be bold if we are to

renew the American civilization.

Last time, a Republican group got together to welcome a re-elected Speaker of the House

was 1928.

I want you all to think about that for a minute.

You are at a moment in history which has not occurred in 68 years.

And you are the first group I have talked to since the election.

Half of that is an accident of scheduling, and the other half is pretty good planning
