So instead of producing new episodes of Newt's World this week, we've decided to go back into the archive

and air several of the GOPAC tapes I made in the late 80s and early 90s.

I've heard from many of you over the years who remember these tapes and many of you took my advice and ran for office.

And for those of you who are too young to remember what the GOPAC tapes are, let me give you a little background.

In the late 1980s, the Republicans in the house had been in the minority for almost four decades.

And in fact, they didn't have enough ideas, enough energy, enough focus.

And so we had to go out and recruit a new generation of leaders and recruit people and give them new ideas,

give them new solutions.

And talk about the nature of how politics was changing with the rise of talk radio and all the other things were going on.

The way we did that is at GOPAC, we sent out tapes, literally old-fashioned cassette tapes.

It wouldn't use any more today.

And people got these tapes, put them in their car and drove around because we'd figured out

that candidates spend a huge amount of time and cars going from event to event.

And so we gave them something to listen to while they were campaigning.

At its peak, the GOPAC tape program was listened to by 75,000 people.
