This week I would like to recommend Escape from the Deep, the epic story of a legendary

submarine and her courageous crew by Alex Kershaw.

So yeah, I know this is way in our future, but I stumbled on this and I couldn't stop reading.

The USS Tang stationed in the Pacific was one of the deadliest submarines around, dodging

mines and death charges, and by 1944 they had taken on more combat action than any other

allied sub.

But then the sub and crew become victim of one of their own malfunctioning torpedoes,

and nine men from the original 80 member crew survived.

They were captured by a Japanese patrol boat and these men would have to pay for their

legendary status.

They were tortured up until the day they were rescued, but they stayed defiant and told

their story.
