Summary

My long-time friend Michael Broadhead joins us to share his journey being gay and raised LDS. Michael is joined by his husband Michael Massoni (they have been together for 25 years and married for 7 years). They both work for Southwest Airlines and live in Phoenix. Michael shares doing his best to navigate being gay, trying to find his way in the LDS Church, working through tough situations and finding a way forward. Michael, who is no longer in the LDS Church, has great insights on how to bring us together as the same human family, find common ground and reduce divisiveness, and principles to keep families together. In this podcast we discovered that in an event whereby we ran into each other decades ago, we were both affected by our fears of each other. Thank you Michael for being on the podcast. This world is a better place because of the contributions of you and your husband Michael. ** Please Check Out My New Book At: ** Deseret Book: www.deseretbook.com/p/listen-learn-and-love-embracing-lgbtq-latter-day-saints Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/1462135773

I've just come out of church and at church a big theme today was love one another. And I don't know

0:34.8

how to love one another any better than having people that

0:38.8

are outside of my normal circle share their story. And so this is, you know, a couple in a same-sex

0:45.0

marriage. They've been in this partnership for 25 years. As I mentioned, Michael Broadhead is one of

0:50.9

my high school friends. He graduated from Highland High School in Salt Lake City.

Two years after me in 1981, I'm aging both of us, Michael. And I didn't know Michael really

1:02.7

well, but I think somehow I picked up either during high school or after high school that Michael

1:07.0

was gay. And I even remember those of you that have flown America West Airlines based

1:13.5

in Phoenix that Michael worked for and now works for Southwest. I remember he was a flight attendant

1:19.1

on my flight. It was. How long ago did America West get merged into Southwest?

1:25.3

America West didn't. Actually, America West bought U.S. Airways, then they bought American.

1:30.2

I'm getting those airlines in Phoenix.

1:32.5

We bought Morris. That's right.

1:34.2

Well, America West disappeared and you made your way to Southwest, I guess.

1:38.7

They did.

1:39.2

And that's got to be at least 10 years ago.

1:42.0

Or more.

I'll be that young if you'd like.
