This is the last podcast that I'll be doing before the football season begins.

I have been counting down the days and when I say that I mean it quite literally. There's a website that lists the number of days, hours,

minutes and seconds and I've taken to looking it up from time to time and telling my wife what the latest numbers are, which, as I'm sure you can imagine, has thrilled her to no end.

Back in England, I had a friend who was unnaturally obsessed with the weather and

aproper of nothing he would start rattling off the day's stats for no one in

particular there'd be silence and he'd just say,

oh, could get up to 24 degrees Celsius today, you know?

And we'd all think, well, thank you.

That's been me. We've been clearing up the dishes and I'll say unsolicited

four days, five hours, thirteen minutes, 44 seconds until until the season opener.

And she'll say,

that's very exciting for you,

in this sort of long suffering way that

has had me wondering in my idle moments how annoying I'm going to be

when we've been married for 40 years instead of just nine.

Well, not nine.
