Now the foundation for today's podcast episode

is a political metaphor that has been so oft employed,

in fact is so ubiquitous, that you would be forgiven for not even

thinking of it as a metaphor or analogy but it is a metaphor and it likens the state to a physical corporeal body.

And you can have all sorts of fun and people have over the centuries

analogizing various parts or people within the state to various body parts.

And the most obvious example of that is of course the head of state.

When we talk about the head of state, we are, again, in this analogy, we are talking about the leader of the body politic

being likened to the head of the body.

And by a further process of Synectnectic you can refer to the crown to

refer to the head of state which is referring to the leader who is in charge of

the nation and etc. We are the heart of this body politic and we're

pumping the blood through the organs or whatever. Again have all sorts of fun

extending that metaphor in all sorts of different ways and some of them
