That is the opening line of the Shund House by H.P. Lovecraft.

podcast. I'm Chris Lanky. I don't believe I'm shunned in any way and I don't really think you are either. That's true. Who was that reader we just heard?

That is none other than Michael Holmes.

Oh, glad they have him back. Yeah, he's back and doing a great job. Yeah. That opening sentence, well it's an interesting opening notion and it's true.

I agree.

You know, I often say that horror and comedy are very similar and that they set up an expectation

and then they break that expectation in order to produce an emotional

effect in the audience.

Although people will frequently disagree about the exact definition of irony usually

after they listen to an Alanis Mora's song on the radio.

But in its raw-form irony was basically when a situation or event turns out other than

expected.

Yeah, it's very simple.

It's not a complicated concept.

In Lovecraft, that frequently means, you know, I've investigated this horrible family, turns out I'm

part of the family.

Or, you know, there's the painter and he's got the best imagination, but as it turns out, he's painting stuff from the real world.

You know, these are the Lovecraft and ironies in this story.
