Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall brought their sizzling on and off-screen chemistry to radio in the exotic drama series Bold Venture.

Now of course other stars had their own radio shows in the 1950s,

but none had the popularity and allure of Mr and Mrs. Humphrey Bogart.

Their love story blossomed on screen before audiences into have and have nod in the big sleep,

and the prospect of the couple headlining their own weekly radio show

made Bold Venture an expensive, popular, and very lucrative endeavor.

Bogart starred in the series as Slate Shannon,

a character reminiscent of several Bogie had played on screen.

Like Harry Morgan and To have and have not, Shannon was a charter

boat captain in the Caribbean. And like Casablanca's Rick Blaine, he owned and operated a hotel frequented by an international clientele.

Bacall played Sailor Duval, the daughter of one of Shannon's friends who had been entrusted to

Slade as a kind of ward. Each week Slade and sailor landed in trouble in

exotic Havana, either thanks to guests who passed through Shannon's place, or during runs on Shannon's

boat that gave the series its name.
