I know we've been going back to ancient history a lot lately, but I want to take a second to look at the origins

of the Rangers. And to do that, we do need to go pretty far back. In the year 1976, of the

third age, the kingdoms of Arnor went to war against the witch king of Angmar.

Now, as we all know, the witch king was the greatest of the Nazgul, chief servant of the

Dark Lord Sauron.

What you might not know is that the kingdoms of Arnor were descended from Numenor, the

greatest kingdom of men in the history of Arda, and the men of Arnor were

called the Dunedine.

Of course Arnor lost their war with the Witch King, and Arnor fell into ruin.
