Several months ago I told you the story of how our country had once been a handful of

colonies, but we fought a war for independence from England, the European nation that had

been ruling those colonies.

That war is called the American Revolution and the winning of it made us the United States

of America.

The period of time in which our revolution happened is often called the Revolutionary

Time Period because there were other revolutions that were happening and other nations around

the earth.

The story I'm going to tell you today happened at the end of a revolution that happened

in France.

Now France's revolution wasn't the same as the Americans revolution.

France wasn't trying to become an independent country from anyone.

Now France was trying to overthrow the government and social class system that had been in

place for centuries.

Do you remember when I told you about the feudal system that came about after the fall of the

Roman Empire?

Well that system severely divided people into classes.
