At the very least, there are dozens of works written about the life of Admiral Sir Henry Morgan, everything from hard

factual academic history to wildly inaccurate romance novels.

He's been an influence on pop culture characters like Captain Blood and become the face

of many Caribbean resorts and attractions and even become the mascot for a brand of rum

familiar to college students the world over.

He's probably, or at least his name, is probably the second most well-known real-world

pirate after Blackbeard.

All of this because of a surgeon who was able to read and wrote what happened on two of his

voyages, and a man who held a grudge against his old boss.

But Alexander Exlimelin, as biased and inaccurate as he was,

wrote a compelling narrative about the Admiral, and it sold. It's sold well. You see every other
