Hello again, patrons, and thank you for supporting the History of the Crusades podcast.

Last time, we saw cracks appear in the Prophet's hold over the people of Munster. As the siege dragged on,

the Prophet, Jan Matthias, ordered all the books inside Munster,

other than the Bible, to be burnt, an order which severely curtailed efforts by the schoolmaster

to educate his pupils. Attempts by the prophet to eliminate currency and personal possessions inside the town also backfired,

with one of the dissenters being clumsily executed for opposing the policy.

Now clearly, while Jan von Leiden has done an admirable job of organizing the defences of the town,

the best result for the Anabaptists of Munster would be for the Bishop Prince's armies

who are surrounding the town to be defeated and the siege lifted.

The only way this could happen, though,

was if an army came to the rescue of Munster

and defeated the Bishop Prince's forces.

The prophet actually planned for exactly this scenario to occur.
