This is a podcast where normally I interview runners, professional and everyday runners,

but I'm doing an athlete series where we aren't necessarily focusing on runners here.

So today I wanted to highlight an athlete who will be competing in the games in Tokyo

in the Olympic Games, who is not a runner.

And that is Kyra Kondi.

She is a climber.

She qualified for the Olympics for Team USA and she's a professional climber.

She started climbing at the age of 11 in her original home gym and early on found out

that she had idiopathic scoliosis.

So she had to have some pretty major surgeries as a young child to date spinal fusion surgery

to correct her more than 70 degree curvature and took several months to recover.

But then she started competing and climbing and she won her first major competition after

having that surgery.

Since then she has qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and she has also become a

bouldering World Cup finalist and is a regular at pro competitions around the US.

Now Kyra explains to us what the climbing competition at the Games at the Olympic Games

will look like.
