Alistair McIntyre, a Scottish-American philosopher and author, in his book, After Virtue,

emphasizes the importance of narratives in understanding human actions and lives. Human beings by nature

are storytelling animals and our identity is shaped by the stories we tell about ourselves and the

larger narratives of our communities and cultures. On the minuscule level, breaking eggs and adding

flour makes sense within the narrative of baking a cake. And

we can expound on that narrative through the context of other stories in our lives. My role

in the story is to bake a cake because the narrative I am in is in the preparation for my mother's

birthday. And the role of cake baker and dutiful son is being played by me.

The kitchen is my stage, and the oven and the ingredients in the utensils to bake the cake are my stage props.

Our perception of reality isn't just shaped by stories.

Our perception of reality is a story. For this reason,
