Everything about the formation of the state and pinched upon the religious and civil

liberties and rights of

the Arab Muslims, Arab Christians, and even the Arab Jews who were there to some extent. And so

there's a way that long before the question of the evil Nazi holocaust comes up,

it's still a question of is this a state that by definition is dependent upon the dispossession

of another group of people? And that's the issue here.

It is my enormous pleasure to be joined by a real viral superstar of the moment as people are

trying to understand the ongoing crisis in Palestine and in Israel. Mark Lamont Hill, you know him

as the host up front on Al Jazeera, also of a show on the Grio author of many books, some of which

we've discussed on this show already, including progressive, but for Palestine. Welcome back, Mark.

Look, I'm sure everyone's clamoring for you because you've had a number of viral interviews.

One that I found to be particularly interesting was your engagement with the spokesperson from Hamas,

which is not someone that we are hearing from very often, but you should first just note the one

that went super viral was the one with the former Israeli defense minister. Was that foreign minister?

Yeah, foreign minister. Danny, I got loaned. Danny, I got loaned. You really pressed him on the

specific question of whether or not Israel's conduct amounted to collective punishment. And I haven't

seen many, if any other instances of people who were at one time or currently spoke's persons

for Israel, really being questioned specifically and forced to answer specifically on this question

of whether or not any of Israel's actions are disproportionate or themselves violations of

international law. Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres said that he was deeply distressed

by Israel's announcement of a siege on the Gaza Strip. He said that the humanitarian situation

...
