Summary

On this episode, Chewy and Eugene discuss some key takeaways from the 2024 ADCC West Coast Trials.

We discuss how several former trials losers became trials winners in 2024, how to best prepare for ADCC trials, why there is no “meta,” the importance of sticking to your style and game plan, the main differences between the ADCC trials from 2018 to 2024, most competitors are competing with injuries, if belt rank matters at high level competitions, the importance of being in shape, why you should focus on the “verb” instead of the “noun,” how to make the “no points” part of the ADCC match more exciting, and sticking with your winning strategy.

What up, guys? So it is the following week at the time of recording this, the following week to the ADCC West Coast Trials, 2004. And so I figured what we would do, because anytime I go to the trials tournament or championship tournament, I always like my phone, I'm always jotting things down on it. If you guys ever see me, those tournaments, a lot of them just jotting down ideas on my phone and

0:23.2

probably not texting all that much.

0:25.6

But I like taking the ideas down as they come because when I go to those tournaments,

0:29.4

you just see so many different little things that pop up, both technical transitions that I find

0:34.5

interesting or something maybe work on or notes to go back and watch a particular match later on because I'm like, I'll see something and I'll,

0:40.7

I want to watch a match later on. But then there's just random ideas that come from those

0:44.9

tournaments. And so what we're going to dive into today is a few, more than a few, but a collection

0:51.3

of ideas or occurrences or things that came from the trials this past weekend

0:56.6

and some ideas that could be useful to you, depending on your training and the situation

1:01.1

you're in, obviously it'll have a competition sort of slant to it.

1:05.3

But there are ideas in it that are sort of universal regardless of whether or not you plan

1:09.3

to compete on any high level or not.

1:11.4

So again, hopefully you guys enjoy the podcast and get something from it.

1:15.1

Also, for those of you that I met in Las Vegas this past weekend, who, you know, you said you

1:20.3

listen to the podcast, you watch the videos, you read the emails, that kind of thing.

1:23.2

It was cool meeting you guys.

1:24.5

Some of you guys for the first time, some of you guys, you know, this is several times that we've met, but it was really cool to come in contact

1:30.5

with you guys. I know there was one person who came up and he said that he had tried to listen

1:34.8

to a number of different Jiu-jitsu podcasts. For whatever reason, they didn't sort of click with

1:39.1

them. He's like, I like yours. He's like, when you guys do, it's great. And he's like, that becomes his one that he listens to for the last couple of years. So, um, appreciate you guys and thanks for the support. Also, thanks to our sponsors for helping make the podcast happen. So you can hear our beautiful voices come to your ears every single week.
