any of these like sort of college affordability initiatives to even be in the ether would be impossible without that burning on.

The ether does not sustain me. The ether does not keep great lakes out of my inbox.

I do not think that I need to have a chain of title showing everything from AOC's win to the present to be able to demonstrate that they haven't had some influence.

But that's not the right question.

Great to be here. You have historically been on the left beat at Huffpo, although you were just telling me that

over recent months or years, you drifted a little bit away from having such an exclusive

focus.

And I was joking with you, you know, is this because of the left being dead?

Or is this because of something external to the fate of left politics, the United States?

Well, look, I don't want to put too much significance on it in terms of what it means about the left.

I have wanted to diversify my focus and cover just general elections and even Republican party dynamics

in greater depth. And of course, we're a lean team. And we get leaner seemingly every year of

post. And so just having people who can cover elections writ large is super important. But I would say that maybe in terms of things that

excited me, it was newer, it was fresher in the aftermath of the 2016 election, I think, as you

well remember, since you and I were on some of those same reporting trips, when the dust was

still clearing from the 2016 election, there was a real sense that

the Bernie wing of the party had had at least some lessons for the establishment to take away.

There was, of course, that knock down, drag out fight, the DNC chairs race, where particularly
