Today's episode is episode 291, and it's part four in our Tippett series.

Akela Clemens was a key witness to the Tippett murder.

She saw two men at the scene and not one, and she saw

them run in opposite directions after the murder. Neither looked anything like Oswald, at least the

Oswald we know anyway. She was also an African-American woman in 1960s, Dallas, a racially

tense city full of plenty of people who still harbor racist tendencies.

And that was especially true of the Dallas police force back in the day.

There is no doubt that this factor heightened her sense of vulnerability and reluctance to come

forward publicly.

Her account of what happened at the Tippett murder differed significantly

from what authorities would later present, and from that moment on, what she saw most assuredly

placed her in a precarious position. In real events, which happened in the aftermath, reinforced that.

Clemens described a particularly chilling visit

just about two days after the tip of shooting.

A uniformed man whom she believed to be a policeman came to her home.

This individual wearing blue-looking clothes and a cap was carrying a gun.

He delivered a stark warning, and she would recount what he said.

Be best if I didn't say anything because I might get hurt, or someone might hurt me if I would talk about what she saw.

The man in the blue cap didn't stop there.

He would go on and make further threats,
