Briahna speaks with two UPS workers, Luigi Morris and Greg Kerwood, and Teddy Ostrow, a journalist who has been covering the labor dispute between the Teamsters and management, about the two-tiered wage system, substandard working conditions, and other work place issues that have led UPS workers to the brink of a strike. With 350,000 workers, a UPS strike would be the largest strike against a single employer in US history. Learn what's at stake and what the left can do to support UPS workers.

It's been a constant back and forth of them playing games, us saying we're not going to put up

0:05.7

with the game playing, and then as the deadlines keep being put in place, they sort of back

0:10.6

down and move things forward. So I think it's been a back and forth and sort of a all or nothing

0:16.8

process with them. So I'm theoretically going to think that they're willing to take this seriously at this point. But once again, we could find ourselves in the same boat a week from now where they give us some low ball offer and we're right back to drawing another line in the sand. But the ultimate line in the sand is August 1st, whether they like it or not. So that's the final deadline. Well, Luigi, you and I had an opportunity to meet at a

worker strike back event in New York a couple of weeks ago. And we were chatting as we ran into

0:42.9

each other afterward about the conditions that have sparked this potential strike. Can you tell

0:50.1

the audience in a little bit more detail what your experiences have been like working at UPS.

0:54.9

Yes. So as I said before, I work inside the warehouse.

0:59.2

I feel like it is common to know more or less how the work of a driver looks like

1:05.7

because you see them all the time in the street, knocking your house.

1:10.3

But in our case, we are inside the warehouse.

1:12.7

Nobody knows how that functions.

1:15.1

When I started working there, you have some expectations because UPS is a big company

1:20.6

that has been around for many years.

1:22.8

When you find inside, once you start working, it's insane.

1:26.4

Starting for the wages, we are paid, we start with $15.50.

1:31.3

We are working for a company that makes billions in profit, like record profits year after year.

1:38.3

We are part-time workers, but they take it too seriously.

1:42.3

We are only guaranteed three hours and a half.

1:45.8

And sometimes they try to cut it down,

1:48.1

which is illegal because that is in the contract.

1:51.7

So it's not only low wages, but a few hours.
