Summary

The Hiker Yearbook is fast becoming a must-have item for thru-hikers of recent years. Matthew Odie Norman is providing a great service to hikers as he not only provides trail magic but also puts together his own version of magic with this glorious keepsake from that magical time in the woods. He is reaching out to his community to allow them to reconnect after the trail, answering his own question after reaching the summit of Katahdin, "What's the second book?" The Hiker Yearbook is the second book.       Critically, he would appreciate the support back from his community in the form of your vote, every day until April 5. Click on Fedex to be taken directly to the voting site. Please don't pass this by. We can do it.   You can reach out to Odie in several ways. There is his website, Facebook, and Instagram. Check him out and encourage this great project. You can also email him directly at hikeryearbook@gmail.com.     Jessa, or Atticus, or Attie, is on her way. The first interview, from Gooch Gap is pretty lousy quality, which was entriely down to my boyish enthusiasm and stupidity, but the second is a lot better. She is having a blast and I hope you're looking forward to hearing more from her as she makes her way north.   The amazing Stacey Kozell continues to disarm me with her glorious self-deprecation as she describes her pre-trail concerns in Fear & Loathing on the Appalachian Trail. Yes, her concerns APART from being paralyzed. You never have a conversation with Stacey without feeling better about your own blessings.   You can support my efforts in the show by buying my books or supporting the show on Patreon. There is a button that can take you directly to my Patreon page, or you could simply click here.

Mighty Blue on the Appalachian Trail, the ultimate midlife crisis, joined Stephen his guests every week as he staggers from Georgia to Maine.

0:26.5

Welcome back to the podcast.

0:28.6

So, somewhat alarmingly, we're up to our episode number 28.

0:33.1

I say alarmingly because that means I'm also up to chapter 28 of my book and there are only 31 chapters

0:38.8

in the first book. Funny enough, reading and recording the book chapter by chapter has been a lot of

0:44.4

fun for me as it is the first time I've actually read it since my editor signed off on it.

0:49.7

I'm quite enjoying it actually. I now record each chapter every week, so it's kind of new to me as well.

0:55.8

I apologise if I laugh too often at my own words, but I'm afraid certain things just make me

0:59.7

giggle. From your emails and your reviews, you seem to be having fun. While I'm on the subject,

1:05.5

obviously, I'm going to run out of chapters after the second book, so I wonder if I could read,

1:09.7

say, an older book on

1:10.9

hiking the AT, or even one by John Muir himself about another trail. I would think the older

1:16.8

titles are out of copyright, so if anybody knows anything about this sort of stuff, please

1:20.8

let me know. I'd really appreciate it. This week, my guest is Matthew Norman, or Odie.

1:27.0

He wasn't going to be the guest, but as you're here, he has a project underway that deserves our support.

1:32.6

Don't worry, that support needs to be in the form of a vote for Odie and his Hiker Yearbook in a FedEx contest for small businesses.

1:40.5

He's a remarkable man, with a great story story and I really enjoy speaking with him.

1:46.2

This week's Fear and Loathing section brings back the utter awesomeness that is Stacey Cozell

1:52.3

or Iron Will.

1:54.4

Remember, this young woman hiked the trail with lupus, the paralyser from the hips down. When you ask somebody like that,

2:02.5

what a concerns were before a hike, you better be prepared for the answers. I wasn't.

2:08.6

And a response to me from one of my questions was the most life-affirming quote,
