Summary

This week’s guest is writer, author, and grief therapist Claire Bidwell Smith. Claire and I discuss losing both of her parents by the age of 25, the memoir (The Rules Of Inheritance) that followed, her take on that book becoming a movie, and what happened when she started examining what happens after we die for her new book, After This.

Oh! And listen to the outro after the interview. I have a little idea of something I want to do together…

If you haven't read Claire's first book, it's kind of huge.

0:52.8

I would highly suggest reading it.

0:55.4

It has been published in 17 different countries.

0:58.5

It's won a ton of awards, and it's actually getting made into a movie with Jennifer Lawrence.

1:04.4

I'm not trying to make you feel bad by saying it's huge, if you've never heard of it it before because I had not read it either.

1:12.5

I don't know. I kind of shy away from books and movies and songs and TV that are sad or

1:22.3

have a sad undertone to them and I'm just sensitive like that, I guess. But I dove into this book and I'm so glad I

1:31.3

did because it's one of the most beautifully written books that I've ever read. And Claire is an

1:39.1

incredible storyteller. So the book itself is her memoir. Both of her parents passed away by the time that she was

1:46.9

25 years old. They were both diagnosed with cancer when she was 14. So it's it's her journey of

1:53.7

coping and dealing with the grief and loss of her parents. And then her new book after this

2:00.4

explores what happens after we die. And hearing Claire

2:05.8

talk about this new book, I have already preordered it and I cannot wait to read it. She interviewed

2:11.9

mediums and psychics and spiritual gurus about what happens after we die.

2:19.8

And she said that it wasn't really something that she thought about when her parents died

2:23.3

because she was too lost in the grief to really think about what happened to them.
