Today we have journalist Adam Johnson here with us.

And let me just say, Adam, I am super excited for this conversation because you wrote an absolutely

phenomenal book called How to Sell a Genocide, which sort of meticulously

breaks down how effectively liberal media, not just right-wing media, but liberal media,

really laid out the parameters and the groundwork to basically function as, I don't know,

an apologist factory for genocide, if not worse than that. So, first of all,

let's just start with this. Was selling the genocide, and we'll get into the specifics of that

in a little bit, of course, but was selling the genocide intentional in mainstream outlets,

or do you think that they like, kind of like the manufacturing consent idea, that they hire

people who are engaged in

group think and they believe they're saying the right things and it just happens to fit into that

framework. Yeah, I mean, that's the eternal question of media criticism. And in key ways,

it doesn't really matter, right? I'm a materialist of heart and, you know, there's the,

there's the common expression, the purpose of a system

is what it does. So I'm less concerned about the kind of what's on their mind, although we do do

internal, we do do reporting of actual journalists and we do get a sense of what the actual thinking

was in the newsroom when some of these decisions were made. And look, it's for the most part,

it's ideological capture. You don't necessarily need a memo from on top to enforce many

of these tropes, ideas, conventional wisdoms, claims. But in many ways, there was a memo from

on top. In fact, we have several of them. Some of them reported originally in The Intercept.
