Hello, everyone, and welcome back to the podcast.

Today's episode is episode 270.

And yes, it's part four of the Bobby Baker series.

I really hope you're enjoying these and I know it's a bit of a wander as so many of our adventures are, but I'm having fun with it, and I hope you are too.

Now, you know, I'm really fascinated with this character, Bobby Baker. He's flawed, we know,

but he also had some amazing talent to corral people and to engage them in all sorts of different

ways. Many of them obviously not so good. But at the end of the day,

he was a guy who knew how to have fun, too, no doubt about it. And telling the story just from the

opposite side of this, when things start to turn bad and everyone becomes suspicious about

everything, well, you'll recall that he sat in front of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee.

He looked them straight in the eye, and he said,

engaging in an investigation at the congressional level doesn't provide me with any of my constitutionally afforded rights.

And he was right about that in many ways. So that's why I feel

to some extent compelled to let him tell his side of the story. And that's exactly what we're

going to do in this episode 270. We're going to read a stretch out of the book, his book,

Wheeling and Dealing.

And it's directly related to what you just heard in 269 and also gives context to some of the other controversies that were converging all at the same time, some of which will actually

address individually in other episodes, but it still is great to hear it from his side and

to put it all in perspective.
