On this episode of the podcast, Chewy and Eugene discuss a common mistake in Jiu-Jitsu. This mistake is getting good at a position in Jiu-Jitsu, but only focusing on one or two techniques from that position, and when your opponent starts to counter those techniques, moving on to another position. We chat about why the better option is to find more techniques from the position you are working on to make your attacks more difficult to defend.
We also discuss the process that goes into developing multiple attacks from one position, whether you should fine tune a technique from one side or try to develop a technique from both sides, the idea of chaining techniques together, your BJJ techniques being like a “Deck of cards,” what it's like attending the Chewjitsu Costa Rica Retreats and how they are structured, and what was unique about training in Costa Rica.

0:00.0 | What up, guys. Welcome to the podcast today. Eugene and I are going to share an idea with you guys. It's something I was talking to the camp about. I just recently had the July 20, 23, |
0:10.6 | chihitsu camp down in Costa Rica. And during the actual technical portions of teaching, I was sharing little principles along the way that I think are very important, more mindset stuff, not necessarily conceptual |
0:21.4 | principles for techniques like, you know, you always lift the arm or whatever, but more of an |
0:25.9 | approach or an idea as a way to approach jitsu. I think those are important because those |
0:30.9 | become universal regardless of what the technique or position is. And so in that with one of the |
0:36.4 | principles I share, I think it's super important |
0:39.3 | because I think it's something that a lot of people don't do very well. And if they do, |
0:43.5 | they could do it better, I think, in a lot of cases. And it's something where if you understand |
0:47.5 | this, it's something that all the best people do. And it a lot of times can help really cut down |
0:52.4 | on all of the overwhelming sort of feeling that |
0:57.5 | people have in jiu-jitsu where they're bombarded with so much information. If you take this |
1:02.1 | principal home, it will help direct you and it can help you avoid all that overwhelming, all those |
1:06.8 | overwhelming feelings of not knowing what to focus on because you have so many options. |
1:14.3 | So we'll talk about that in just a bit and I hope it helps your jih Tzu out. |
1:16.9 | Also, thanks to you guys for being here with us. |
1:19.9 | And a big thanks to Charles Webb for helping make the podcast happen. |
1:22.5 | If you guys haven't checked them out, Charles Webb is a CBD company. |
1:25.9 | To me, they're one of the premier CBD companies out there. |
1:27.5 | They third party test all their products. |
1:31.7 | And they recently came up with a new line called Recreate, which is basically they're the CBD that they make that everybody knows and uses, right? |
1:36.1 | And then they've also combined them with things like Lyons, Maine, and other supplements |
1:39.7 | and things like that to help out with everything from brain support to endurance, |
