Our guest for this episode is a vocalist, songwriter, and nothing less than a demi-god among space guitarists.

It's Mr Mark King of level 42.

Oh yes.

As a bassist myself of some 17 years standing, it's a particular thrill to speak to Mark.

God, your legs must be tired.

Very good.

As a teenage thumb-slinger, I'd jam along to his stuff, some songs more successfully

than others, and to this day I'll still bust out a level 42 lick or two during a sound check or just

messing about on the base at home.

So yeah, very excited about this and I'll do my best not to fawn during the interview.

Oh, you're starting early with the puns.

Do you remember that episode of French and Saunders,

where Mark King was in one of the sketches?

Yeah, it was in the courtroom, and actually I had that on video.

They had Ralph Mattel in the dock for bringing out a guitar book

that didn't have the little code diagrams in it.

Yeah, and they had like Lemmy and Mark Knopfler and people like that come in to testify and none of them could play it.

That's right.
