Summary

If I were to tell someone from Wood County Texas to close their eyes and try to imagine what the tiny town of Hawkins, which sits at the intersections of Highway 80 and Farm Road 14 in the south east corner of the county, looked like in 1986 they would not have to use their imagination. Moving with a slow east Texas rhythm the town has not changed with time, but rather has found itself suspected within it.

The town sits as an Americana time capsule, arrested to the last time that they knew the innocence, hope, and freedom they once prided themselves on for within hearts of the residence sits a wound that has never healed. Time is only measured in two ways in Hawkins, TX before what happened to them in 1986 and after…or as they refer to it…before and after, “The kids”.

For this case I am bringing you into a town named Hawkins, in 1986, and to be honest the vibes of the town seem strikingly similar to another Hawkins you are all well acquitted with, time period and all…and there is one more similarity…high school students going missing. But in our case the disappearances are real and the effects of what happened to the children of Hawkins in 1986 have reverberated through the quiet roads ever since. So let’s step back in time…

Hey guys, welcome to episode 231 of the True Crime Couple podcast. I'm Kay. And I'm John.

0:06.4

We hope that you're all doing well, and we have heard you guys loud and clear. We know some of you

0:12.6

do get a little confused or turned off by the intro, but everyone seems to want us to

0:17.6

overwhelmingly keep it. So that's what we're going to do. I do enjoy it as well.

0:22.7

What we had done when we created it was we just wanted to take various famous clips from

0:28.0

true crime. And remember, that's back in 2017. So that's what we had out there to offer us.

0:34.5

And that's what we used. So. Yeah. I mean, hey, you know what? It could be worse, I guess. But at least you guys like it. And funny enough, I was actually driving home from work the other day. And I'm like, something that I never do, actually, is I listened to an episode and I heard it. And it was like so long since I heard our intro and I was like okay I see

0:56.8

why people like would want it all the OGs out there I love I love it well I like the way that we do it

1:02.0

that's the way all true crime podcasts used to do it back in the day we've just never changed our

1:06.9

format where there's an introduction then an intro intro music, and then the podcast starts.

1:13.1

So I just kind of like the formula, and I hate change.

1:18.1

I'm actually glad we're going to keep it.

1:20.1

I agree. And if anyone was asking, like, oh, my God, he doesn't listen to the episodes.

1:24.3

It's like, you know what it is? When you edit, it's like the last thing you want to do, you know? Right. Well, you hear it and then you edit it and then to listen

1:31.8

a third time. But we do need to clean up the editing a little bit. We have heard the feedback of saying,

1:38.4

like, I repeat things. So we do apologize for that. We're always super under the gun.

1:44.6

Like right now, here we are.

1:46.3

We're recording this episode on Saturday the 16th, and we're releasing it on Sunday

1:50.6

the 17th.

1:51.5

And we have to edit it sometime in between.

1:54.0

So we're sorry that sometimes things sneak through.

1:59.2

That's true.
