Hello and welcome to Sword and Scale, episode 22, a show that reveals that the worst monsters are real.

And this particular episode will, in fact, give you a very clear window into the actions of these monsters and how they can be everywhere in plain sight.

Yeah. I don't want to tell you what this episode's about.

But be prepared for what's coming. December 6th, 2009, West Valley City, Utah.

Church services are being held this morning in the Hunter 36th Ward of the Church of Latter-day Saints.

In attendance are 28-year-old Susan Powell

and her two sons, four-year-old Charlie

and two-year-old Braden. After church,

the family walks home with friend Kersey, Heliwell. Later that afternoon, neighbor Joanna

Owings dropped by the house for a visit. Susan's husband, Josh, made a dinner of pancakes and eggs.

Okay. made a dinner of pancakes and eggs. Susan had dinner with her neighbor in the living room,

while Josh had dinner with the two boys in the kitchen,

occasionally popping back into the living room for conversation.

At about 5 p.m., Susan said she was feeling tired

and went to go lay down. Neighbor Giovanna Owings leaves, and so does Josh with the two boys. He says

he's going to take them sledding. At around 8.30 p.m., Josh returns home and his car is seen

pulling into the garage. Then, at 9 a.m. the next morning, the Powell's daycare provider becomes alarmed when the couple failed to drop off their two sons on schedule, and she can't get a hold of either parent by cell phone or at their home.

Josh Powell's mother and sister are contacted after they attempt to locate the

couple themselves and are unsuccessful. Police break into the home but find no one there. What they do

find is two fans blowing on a wet spot in the carpet. It's a frantic scene. A young family has gone

missing unexpectedly.
